On the night of January 5, 2011, Teng carved his niche in PH basketball annals when the 6-2 son of former Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) strongman Alvin (Robocop) Teng exploded for 104 points in Xavier School?s 164-74 shellacking of Grace Christian College in a Metro Manila Tiong Lian Basketball Association (MMTLBA) high school game at the state-of-the-art Jacinto Tiu Court inside the Xavier School campus in San Juan City.
This Hoopster was among a sparse crowd of 700 people that witnessed Teng?s historic feat. A DVD copy of the Golden Stallions guard?s 104-point game is also available.
Playing 35:22 minutes of a maximum 40, Jeron shot 37-for-70 from the field (including 1-for-5 from beyond the three-point arc) and connected on 29 of his 34 free-throw attempts.
He posted quarter scores of 27, 16, 25 and 36 points.
By the end of the third period, Teng had already tallied 68 markers, four more than the previous Tiong Lian single-game scoring record held by another Xaverian Eric Yao, who once scored 64 points against Uno High School during the 1998 season.
Teng knocked in his history-making 99th and 100th points on a pair of free throws with 54.1 seconds left in the fourth quarter and Xavier School comfortably ahead, 160-72.
He scored 19 of the Gold and Blue?s final 21 points in the one-sided contest, including the last 11.\
In completing his magical performance, the then-16-year-old Teng also grabbed 24 rebounds (20 of them on the offensive end), collected six steals and blocked a pair of enemy shots.
To the non-believers, though, it?s also true that he did not issue a single assist.
Overall, Teng hit at a 39.5-point clip in 16 Tiong Lian games last season.
On the international front, Teng saw action for the Philippine Youth team to the FIBA Asia Under-16 tournament in 2009 and FIBA Asia Under-18 tournament the following year.
He also was a member of the four-man PH squad to the 3-on-3 competitions in the 2010 Youth Olympic Games in Singapore.
In the ongoing 42nd MMTLBA competitions, where Xavier School is the four-time defending champion in the Juniors Division, the back-to-back league MVP Teng is averaging 30.75 points in four appearances (24-14-58-27).
A high school senior who turns only 18 in March, Teng will suit up for the De La Salle University Green Archers in the 2012 University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) tournament in July.
