The Elegant Shot: Collegiate
Champions League Rolling Out
by Henry B. Abes (06/24/08)
Last week there was a gathering of the city’s, and perhaps the country’s,
best sports writers at Gourdo’s in the Fort in Taguig City. Gourdo’s
seemed an appropriate enough venue for such a gathering – known
as it is as an exclusive kitchen boutique that also has its own
working kitchen and restaurant serving up some of the best gourmet
meals in this corner of the world. Gourdo’s is both a showcase of
equipment as well as a showcase of fine culinary skills. >>

In Your Face: High
on Coke
by Joe W. Buduan (06/24/08)
Before every one gets in a tizzy over the title of this issue’s
column let me just make it clear that I refer to the PBA team and
not recreational pharmaceuticals. Given how well the Coca Cola Tigers
have done so far in the PBA Fiesta Cup though, I wouldn’t be surprised
if Tigers fans are feeling the same kind of high as the more well-off
tipplers of Colombia’s finest export.>>

Family Jewels: Some
Thoughts After Recovery
by Alan B. Taule (06/24/08)
I am now up and about. Finally. Since my unfortunate accident, I
have learned to value the small things we all used to take for granted—you
know, like going to the bathroom unaided, taking off to Gateway
to catch a movie whenever I felt like it, or even buying my own
stuff at the grocery. It’s funny now, but I was almost moved to
tears when I was able to take my first full-body bath after two-and-a-half
weeks of doing the “naspu-naspu” stuff for invalids. Ah, freedom.

The Shot That Counts:
Hunters hunted
by Jude Roque (06/24/08)
As the Red Lions of San Beda College gear up for the coming NCAA’s
84th season, seven other squads are out to prevent them from capturing
a third straight title. With still a powerhouse roster this year,
headed by 2006 MVP and Rookie of the Year Samuel Ekwe, last year’s
Finals MVP Ogie Menor and John Paul Escobal, SBC is heavily favored
to run away with the 2008 men’s basketball plum. Many say that this
coming NCAA wars will be a walk in the park for the Lions, and that
no other team even poses a challenge. >>

Buy 1 Take 1. Kaya nang batiin ako ng aking mga kabaranggay nang
isang masigabong “Heto na! Nagbalik na ang Pilosopong Tsismoso!
Marami na naman tayong madidinig na malalalim na reklamo,” ako ay
napangiti lamang. Nang nagkainuman nitong nag-Santa Crusan may nakapagtanong,
“P’re, ano’ng sipat mo sa rambulan ng BAP at SBP?” Ako ay muling
ngumiti, “Hayaan mo sila, kakayanin nilang ayusin ‘yan,” sabay tagay.

Hoops High:
To Three-peat or not to Three-peat
by Not Africa (06/24/08)
The main storyline for this year’s NCAA is if the Red Lions of San
Beda can capture an NCAA triple crown. Not long after their win
in season 83, a considerable majority of the basketball community
have made a foregone conclusion that the Red Lions will indeed achieve
a three-peat come season 84. >> read
