Over the weekend Season 71 of the Universities Athletics Association
of the Philippines opened with the usual cornucopia of speeches,
tributes, music, special effects, bright lights and famous faces.
It is a little hard to believe that the UAAP is now in its 70’s.

Oh how I love having a nice long cold one while I watch the best
of college basketball on a huge flatscreen home theater-type television.
That nicely done crispy pata and the fresh oysters weren’t too bad
either. When you can have all of this I cannot help but shake my
head and wonder what on earth ever possesses otherwise level-headed,
responsible and reasonable people to do everything short of signing
over their families’ souls to the devil just to get tickets for

Hoops High: Tough
Times for San Beda High

San Beda High School has long been regarded as the best juniors
basketball program in the nation, what I like to call Hoops High.
Under the tutelage of Coach Ato Badolato, the Red Cubs have long
dominated the high school division of all leagues, even at the national
level. The mere mention of the Red Cubs would strike fear to any
opponent, relegating other teams to fight for second place in any
tourney they enter in. Such was the legend of the mighty Red Cubs.
