Move over, Big Brother.
The Xavier School Aspirants, who are seeking a record-extending
eighth consecutive title, duplicated the feat of their Juniors counterparts
in the 40th Metro Manila Tiong Lian Basketball tournament by completing
their own single round-robin elimination schedule with a lily-white
6-0 record.
In the semifinals, the top-ranked Golden Stallions are facing No.
4 seed St. Jude Catholic School (3-3) and No. 2 seed Chiang Kai
Shek College (5-1) are matched up against No. 3 seed St. Stephen’s
High School (4-2).
Both Xavier School and Chiang Kai Shek College own a twice-to-beat
advantage over their respective opponents.
During the elimination round, Xavier School blasted St. Jude Catholic
School, 93-57, while CKSC whipped St. Stephen’s HS, 75-57.
The semifinal winners will clash in a best-of-three championship
series on Saturday, Feb. 13 (10:00 a.m. in the CKSC gym); Monday,
Feb. 15 (2 p.m. in Xavier School); and, if Game Three is necessary,
on Wednesday, Feb. 17 (5:30 p.m. in the CKSC gym).
Jarrell Lim, the son of Xavier alumnus Dr. John Lim, is the XS
Aspirants’ No. 1 scorer with an 18.2-point clip (16-17-7-21-28-20).
Vincent Soliven is next with an average of 11.5 points per game. |
