Three-time Metro Manila Tiong Lian Basketball Association (MMTLBA)
Juniors champion Xavier School and the Tiong Lian All-Star team
are headed to Taiwan to play a series of exhibition games against
prominent Taiwanese high school squads from April 5-11.
The XS Golden Stallions, who swept St. Jude Catholic School, 2-0,
in the best-of-three Tiong Lian finals last February, are composed
of tournament Most Valuable Player Jeron Teng (23.3 ppg, 11.6 rpg,
3.6 apg, 1.9 spg), Jose Anton “Jett” Manuel (20.1 ppg, 5.7 rpg,
4.4 apg, 2.3 spg), Harold Ng (12.1 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 2.3 apg, 1.4 spg),
Kevin Lim (10.7 ppg, 6.9 rpg), Donal Ong (8.8 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 2.8
apg), Bryan Tan (7.7 ppg, 3.3 apg, 2.7 spg), Michaelvin Chiong (4.0
ppg), Caesar Wongchuking (3.8 ppg), Kyles Lao (3.6 ppg), Paolo Cabero
(3.4 ppg), Alejandro Dizon (3.2ppg, 3.2 ppg), Abram Vera Cruz (2.1
ppg), Chase Tan (1.4 ppg), Alberto Oxales (0.8 ppg, 3.0 rpg), Reimond
Go (0.4 ppg, 0.6 rpg).
Head coach is youthful Jonathan “Budds” Reyes, who won championships
in the Philippine Athletic Youth Association (PAYA), San Juan Inter-High
School tournament and Tiong Lian competitions in his first year
with the Golden Stallions.
Teng, Manuel, Lim and Ng additionally will head the Tiong Lian
All-Star unit. Teng is a sophomore while Manuel, Lim and Ng are
graduating seniors.
Joining the XS quartet on the All-Star squad also to be mentored
by Reyes are Kim Lo (14.8 ppg, 11.9 rpg, 1.1 bpg), Derrence Lam
(9.1 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 3.2 apg), Carlo Cheng (4.6 ppg, 1.4 rpg) of St.
Jude Catholic School, Errol Villar (11.6 ppg, 11.9 rpg, 1.1 bpg),
Joshua Go (3.3 ppg, 2.8 apg) of Hope Christian High School, Arvin
Faustino (9.6 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 2.3 apg, 1.6 spg) of Chiang Kai Shek
College, Kent Lao (10.4 ppg, 8.4 rpg, 1.7 bpg) of St. Stephen’s
High School, Alvic Ong (9.4 ppg, 3.8 rpg) of Uno High School and
Brenson Go (11.9 ppg, 10.3 rpg, 3.6 bpg) of Grace Christian High
School.
Both the XS Golden Stallions and the Tiong Lian All-Stars will
play one game each against top high school teams from Kaohsiung,
Tainan and Taipei.
A year ago, the Tiong Lian champion Xavier Juniors swept all their
exhibition games against their Taiwanese counterparts. |
