Brilliant Effort Brings Back the Gold to Xavier

With a lopsided victory in game one of the best-of-three series,
the Xavier Juniors team was highly favored to take home the championship.
CKSC however, had other plans in mind. With an ugly first quarter
effort in game one, CKSC came out full throttle matching the Stallions
blow-by-blow. At the end of the first ten minutes of play CKSC
had the lead at 22-20.

Xavier completes sweep to bag Tiong Lian crown

Xavier School was crowned champion of the Juniors Division as
it completed a finals series sweep of Chiang Kai Shek College
on Game Day Seventeen of the 30th Tiong Lian Basketball Association
(MMTLBA) Basketball Tournament. The Stallions finished the season
with an immaculate record of 9 wins and no losses but was challenged
throughout the second game of the series by the determined Blue
Dragons.

All roads led to UNO High School Gym in Sta. Cruz Manila as Game
Day Sixteen of the 30th Tiong Lian Basketball Association (MMTLBA)
Basketball Tournament featured the first game of the best-of-three
finals series in the Juniors Division between Xavier School and
Chiang Kai Shek College. Sporting an unblemished slate, the Stallions
were an odds on favorite to repeat their Game Day One conquest of
the Blue Dragons on their St. Valentines Day date. A rabid Xavier
supporter predicted a clean sweep and declared that the only basketball
everybody will be watching this coming Saturday, Feb. 18, when a
game three is scheduled if needed, will be on television as the
National Basketball Associations holds its All-Star Weekend in Houston,
Texas. His favorite team didnt disappoint him as Xavier easily won
over Chiang Kai Shek, 72-61.

Xavier scores double

XAVIER SCHOOL scored a rare golden double when it ruled both the
Aspirants and Juniors divisions in the recent Tiong Lian basketball
competitions at the UNO Gym. The Aspirants, handled by Jojo Imutan,
did the trick first, beating St. Stephen`s high school squad,
72-71, in a one-game finals last Feb. 11 to cap their dominance
in the event. They won the title in grand fashion by stringing
up nine straight wins for their fourth straight championship.

expected wins by Chiang Kai Shek College over Grace Christian

High School, 81-64. The two winners will now meet in the semis
as Chiang Kai Shek holds a twice-to-beat advantage over St. Jude

Basketball Tournament featured what is expected to be the cast
of the Final Four of the Hitachi Cup. The first game pitted two
of the three teams that had been in a logjam at second place with
Chiang Kai Shek College outlasting UNO High School, 85-65. The
second game saw undefeated Xavier School continue its rampage
as it steamrolled over Saint Jude Catholic School, 105-48.

St. Stephen`s High School finally got back to its winning ways
by prevailing over Grace Christian High School, 76-62, in a match
of cellar dwellers during Game Day Seven of the High School Division
of the 30th Tiong Lian Basketball Association (MMTLBA) Basketball
Tournament otherwise known as the Hitachi Cup. In the second game,
Chiang Kai Shek College flexed its muscles to bully Hope Christian
High School into submission, 81-54.

running UNO High School a scare before grudgingly giving up the

In very tightly contested second game, Chiang Kai Shek College
nosed out erstwhile Xavier School co-leader, St. Jude Catholic

goes through San Juan. Rampaging to another 36-point blowout,
Xavier exacted sweet revenge on its nemesis for the past two years,
St. Stephen`s High School, 91-45. In the second game, Hope Christian
High School finally notched its first win by edging out its previously
co-winless team, Grace Christian High School, 63-57.

Day Two of the Metro Manila Tiong Lian Basketball Association
(MMTLBA) Basketball Tournament commenced last Wednesday, January
11, at the UNO High School Gymnasium. This historic court in Santa
Cruz, Manila, serves as the exclusive venue of the 30th edition
of the grandest boys basketball tournament in the Filipino-Chinese
community. This year`s host and High School Division defending
champion, St. Stephens High School, continues the excellent tradition
of possibly the best organized non-collegiate basketball tournament
in the country with the unbridled support of the other six member
schools, namely: Chiang Kai Shek College, Grace Christian High
School, Hope Christian High School, St. Jude Catholic School,
UNO High School and Xavier School.
